Dharmendra: "TV made Amitabh Bachchan Big B"

Dharmendra on his television debut, Sunny's work ethic and the emotional 'Ghayal' sequel

Veteran actor Dharmendra is set to make his TV debut with ‘India's Got Talent 3’ but refuses to call it the small screen, pointing out that it was the magic of television that made "my younger brother Amitabh Bachchan Big B".

"Why do you call television the small screen? It's this medium that made my younger brother Amitabh Bachchan Big B. It's with his 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' that he got the title of Big B. So, there is nothing like the big screen or small screen," Dharmendra said. He will judge the show with actresses Sonali Bendre and Kirron Kher.

The 75-year-old shares a strong bond with Amitabh from their ‘Sholay’ days and says that he would be lucky if they could work together in a project anytime soon.

"I will have to talk it out with him, work it out with him. He has his own commitments, his prior engagements and if in between we get a chance, I will be lucky," said Dharmendra whose actress wife Hema Malini starred in Amitabh Bachchan’s home production ‘Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap’ that released July 1.

‘India's Got Talent 3’ travels to different cities across India in search of local talent. The show that will be aired on Colors channel will be anchored by actor-singer-dancer Meiyang Chang and model Gautam Rode.

In season one, Sonali, Kirron and filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor were the judges and in the second season, filmmaker Sajid Khan replaced Kapoor.

At a press meet for the show, Dharmendra also said that he was confident that the sequel to the 1990-hit ‘Ghayal’, which starred his elder son Sonny Deol, will be better than the original.

"'Ghayal 2' is going to be the most emotional film. It will definitely be even better than the original. We are working very hard on it. We are still deciding on the cast of the film but Om Puri and Sunny are there for sure. I'm confident this film will be very good," said Dharmendra.

The Deol family is all set to revive their banner Vijeta Films with the sequel, and Dharmendra says he is confident about Sunny's work.

"Sunny is a wonderful actor," he said.

Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, 'Ghayal' also starred Meenakshi Seshadri, Raj Babbar, Moushmi Chatterjee and Amrish Puri. It featured Sunny as an amateur boxer, who goes on to avenge his brother's death.

The film won seven Filmfare Awards, including the best movie. In 1992, 'Ghayal' was remade in Tamil as 'Barathan'.
